Judith: “You begin” to Tony.

Tony: “We are in generally good health.”

Judith: “No, but our age” laughing.

Tony: “Oh, how old? We have trouble hearing you. Sorry”, laughing. “So, we are in a retirement village but most of our activities are directed outside of the village. We belong to a lively church where we’ve got all generations represented. And we have wonderful relationships, even with the ones that would regard me as belonging to the dinosaur age.”

Judith: “When we retired I did a doctorate because I didn’t have time to do one before that.”

Tony: “Mental alertness: I play chess with some of the other blokes in the village.”

Judith: “He says that there is a lot of exercise in moving pieces around the board” laughing. “I have always seen swimming as important.”

Tony: “She is a good swimmer, so she will do her 60 laps and I’m content with six laps.”

Judith: “But Tony walks and rides the exercise bike”.

Tony: ”Five minutes a day I ride an exercise bike. I don’t walk enough. I think the important thing is to know - as now so then - as you are now that’s what you carry into old age and that means I have to work at certain things. Like health obviously. Relationships. Particularly relationship with your wife, relationship with your children and grandchildren. Make sure those things are right and above all your relationship with God. And you know grandchildren are sometimes interested to hear our stories. Although the youngest recently said ‘Granddad has interesting stories, but sometimes he forgets he has told them before’. Yes” laughing.
